Hello,

I'm Francois, French, 43, father of four children. I have no proper training in chinese or litterature (I'm an engineer), but I have learnt some chinese some 20 years ago, practiced ever since, and like chinese litterature.

I am mostly interested in translations, from chinese to french or english... I'll post mine, and will be interested in any discussion about them, or those of others.

Hoping to see you on LitChina.

Francois

Hi Francois and everybody else. I'm Hailong from CHF. I just read about this new forum and thought I would be nice to join in. I'm a 27 years old Italian student of Asian studies at Rome university. I still have an awful lot to learn especially considering the terrible level of sinology teachings here in Italy so I hope to make friends with people who share similar interests with me and to learn something new.

Hello!  Wink

I like the poetry and I like reading it into whatever language I understand! I also like translating it from chinese to french (my native language) or english/spanish even if it sounds quite difficult sometimes...
It often amazes me how easily the language of some of the chinese poems, written over a thousand years ago, can be understood nowadays... Well, each of us has his/her own way to understand/feel it, right ?

我用汉语介绍可以吗?
大家好!我是中国人,在巴黎读“汉语对外教学“专业。我从小就喜欢文学,主要是古典诗词和现代文学。不过我翻译水平不好,所以从翻译中体会不到很多乐趣。我喜欢欣赏原文作品。
(So, now I will use my bad English....)
Hello, everyone! I'm Chinese, and study in Paris about "chinese foreign language", concretely,  "teaching chinese to foreign people". From childrood, I love literary, espacially classic poetry and modern literary (less contemporary literary). But I haven't a good level of translate, so I cann't take great pleasure in translating. I juste like read them in original langue.

Friends of Chinese Literature

My interest in Chinese Literature involves my study of Jade and Jade Culture, particularly China and the Orient from the Neolithic to the present. The misuse, misunderstanding and mistranslation of Jade and Jade Culture terminology is wide spread among Chinese, and worse in western languages, even though Jade words are probably one of the most important vocabulary in the history of Chinese Culture.

My Chinese I know I learned as self taught living China 9.5 years.

My other interests are Board Games including Chinese chess, Oriental Gardening, Natural Gardening, Arts of the Way (Martial Arts), and World Religions.

My primary language is English, good Spanish, some French, and a mixed bag of Chinese

hi, welcome to all new members !

it seems that most people so far would be speaking English and Chinese.

Don't forget to answer the one-question poll on your native language.

Bonjour, je suis un étudiant français m'intéressant à la littérature et plus généralement à la langue chinoise, je n'ai cependant pas le niveau requis pour participer à la traduction de poésie chinoise! Je me contenterai donc de réagir à vos discussions. A plus tard  Wink

Hi!

I am Ur.  Grin

I live in the small city-state nation of Singapore and visited France and Paris for the first time recently.

My Chinese literary knowledge and ability is very low though I am interested in the translations. I hope to contribute something in the future.

请多指教!

Hello Everyone!

I'm Teng Ai Hui.  I go by the same name at CHF.  I have been living in China and working as an English teacher for over 3 years.  I try to read as much Chinese literature as I can, when I can find it translated into English.

Are there any rules yet about what is and is not Chinese literature?  Does the original work have to be written in Chinese?

Hi TengAiHui,

There are no strict rules, we have a section for foreign litterature, and another one for translations into chinese (where a few translation have been posted). The general idea is that the forum is about litterature from china, in chinese or about China, but I see no problem in allowing a slightly broader scope (towards litterature, I mean...)

Hi, Bonjour, 大家好,

I'm Laurent, Belgian, French speaker, translator, 42, father of three. I have a very basic knowledge of Chinese, as I have been learning it for 1.5 year in Brussels. I was drawn to the language because I like chinese literature, especially ancient literature and even more specifically poetry, although I've also started reading, and greatly enjoyed, some classical prose books: Shuihu Zhuan, Pu Songling's tales, Sima Qian... I'm currently half way through the Xiyouji.

See you soon,

Laurent

Bonjour,

De et vers quelles langues tranduis-tu ?

Je traduis vers le français (et vers le wallon http://wa.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mwaisse_p%C3%A5dje, mon autre langue maternelle, uniquement en dehors de heures de bureau  Smiley ). Mes langues de départ sont, en théorie, l'anglais, l'espagnol, le néerlandais et le finnois. En pratique, c'est l'anglais la plupart du temps... Peut-être le chinois dans une dizaine d'années?

Bonne journée,

Laurent

Hi Cao Yuan,

Feel free to participate in english or chinese language as long as it concerns Chinese litterature and poetry. Smiley
