There's a question that I need help from this forum :

what does "剪" mean ? as in "一剪梅" ( like a Ci poem )

I've found this in a dictionary :

翦
量詞。用於花枝。 宋 周邦彥 《一剪梅》詞：“一翦梅花萬樣嬌，斜插疏枝，略點眉梢。” 清 朱彝尊 《山坡羊‧雙林庵》曲：“船，橋那邊；蓮，紅一翦。” 夏丏尊 葉聖陶 《文心》二八：“擺在墻邊圓几上的一盆春蘭有三四翦開了。”

I think "翦 " is a variant of "剪"

In other word does "一剪梅" = "一支梅" ?

Hi Tonette,

剪 jian3 means scissors, or to cut with scissors, or to cut.
翦 is a variant, used also for the surname "jian".

could 一剪梅 mean "one cut-off branch of plum flowers", as opposed to 一支梅, which describes the same branch on the tree?

翦 est variant de 剪. François a raion : "一剪梅 mean one cut-off branch of plum flowers", mais il s'étend à la  branche, coupée ou non. Examinez l'exemple donné par Tonette "擺在墻邊圓几上的一盆春蘭有三四翦開了。”il s'agit les branches d'orchidée dans un pot..., au fait 翦= 枝, (量词).
